Job Description

Our client is now hiring for a RF Engineering Manager for their Connected Health, Wearable Device business line. The Connected Health, Wearable business line venture within client was established in 2018. The Wearable Team’s mission is to unleash the true potential of a safety and wellness device, giving customers a highly configurable, yet simple and elegant wearable solution. You will be part of the Wearable Technology and Product team, working with a dynamic group of professionals who are passionate about solving customer needs.

About the job:

We are seeking a full-time RF Engineering Manager on our Wearable team. In this role, you will direct the development and testing for a health and wellness wearable product solution. You will collaborate with engineers and associates internally and externally bring a new (already in development) product to market.

  • Completes all technical development tasks pertaining to applications per approved projects and allocated budgets.
  • Interfaces extensively with functional users to confirm the applicability of design alternatives, identifies and recommends cost-effective options, and address user concerns.
  • Interfaces as necessary with all critical integration points to insure that applications are integrating successfully and efficiently with all requested applications.
  • Conducts necessary internal quality assurance, system testing, and load testing to ensure that the application is of high quality when released to users for the User Acceptance Testing phase of the project (manage all necessary migration of software code to/from the respective environments ¿ development, quality assurance, training);
  • Works closely with end users and corporate sponsors during the User Acceptance Testing phase of the project to ensure that any and all necessary changes to the application can be accommodated to meet user requirements while also honoring timeline and budget restrictions.
  • Provides detailed deployment documentation to the support group to insure preparedness to deploy new releases into the production environment within the SLA windows
  • Designs, implements, and maintains databases with respect to access methods, access time, validation checks, and statistical methods.
  • Maps workflow and creates design specifications based on functional requirements.
  • Translates logical information model to efficient physical database designs.
  • Configures, analyzes, designs, develops, and maintains program code and applications to support business processes and functions; works on large, complex installations.
  • At the lower levels, responsibilities may focus primarily on simple systems analysis and development activities. At the senior level positions, responsibilities may focus primarily on design and development of innovative business solution systems.
  • At higher levels, designs and consults on data design, database architecture, metadata, and repository creation; develops data warehousing blueprints, evaluates hardware and software platforms, and integrates systems.
  • Evaluates reusability of current data for additional analysis.
  • Reviews object and data models and the metadata repository to structure the data for better management and quicker access.
  • Serves as an expert to application developers to provide expertise on database capabilities and constraints.

Required Skills

  • BS/BA degree in related discipline (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, etc.).
  • Experience developing hardware for embedded systems
  • 5+ years of experience working with devices with IoT connectivity such as Bluetooth, GPS, LTE, etc.
  • Cellular network carrier regulatory and certification requirements, PTCRB and FCC process management
  • Solid interpersonal, presentation, and collaborative skills and commitment to develop further. Excellent analytical and academic credentials. Ability to push and complete independent analysis.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Manage the design, debug, and testing of LTE, GPS, and BLE antennas for application in body-worn consumer devices
  • Drive the cellular network regulatory and certification process (FCC, PTCRB) including tuning TRP and TIS measurements to meet minimum performance requirements for a product currently in development
  • Plan and develop experimental test programs to verify compliance to all applicable regulations and quality guidelines
  • Understanding of advanced RF Simulation tools, design and build RF designs, and iterate RF simulation and physical design to achieve performance
  • Demonstrated experience implementing RF design elements: return loss, radiation patterns, efficiency, TRP and TIS for integration consumer product integration
  • Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes, and provide comments and suggestions on some electrical design aspects in design reviews
  • Understanding of consumer hardware development process including mechanical design, PCB layout, and manufacturing processes
  • Prepare or direct preparation of product layouts, detailed drawings and schematics, and TRP/TIS test reports
  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if the proposed design meets functional and performance specifications
  • Interface with the test engineers and factory personnel on the testing and production of the products

Skills and Qualifications

Minimum

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with a focus on RF design and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience implementing an LTE antenna into a wearable product and/or miniaturized smart product
  • Hardware prototyping methodology to quickly iterate, tune, and measure TRP/TIS
  • Experience using CAD for TRP simulation in free space and on a phantom human body
  • Experience developing firmware and hardware for battery-powered devices
