Job Description

We have a position for a Wetland Delineation Specialist with one of our clients in Atlanta, GA for an initial contract duration of 6 months. No third party candidates considered for this position.

The Wetland Delineation Specialist conducts independent wetland and watercourse delineations, mapping, and regulatory documentation to support environmental permitting and land development projects. This is a full-time, field-heavy role with periodic office work, supporting a billable service line and contributing to long-term organizational growth. The position requires strong technical field skills, regulatory experience, and the ability to interface with agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently perform wetland and watercourse delineations, identifying boundaries between wetlands and uplands.
  • Evaluate hydrophytic vegetation, hydric soils (including Munsell color chart use), and wetland hydrology indicators.
  • Conduct field surveys using GPS, augers, soil probes, and standardized data forms.
  • Complete multi-week field assignments, followed by office-based reporting periods.
  • Map wetland boundaries using GPS, GIS, and ArcGIS tools.
  • Review and interpret aerial imagery, National Wetland Inventory (NWI) maps, soil surveys, and other pre-field research materials.
  • Document wetland functions, values, and landscape position.
  • Prepare detailed wetland delineation reports for submission to USACE and state agencies.
  • Support Clean Water Act Section 404 permitting and related regulatory processes.
  • Interface directly with the Army Corps of Engineers and other regulatory bodies.
  • Assist with permit applications, negotiations, and follow-up communications.
  • Conduct construction monitoring to ensure compliance with environmental protection measures.
  • Provide field observations and documentation to support project compliance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-4 years of independent wetland delineation experience (not just assisting).
  • Demonstrated experience submitting delineation reports to USACE and interacting with agency staff.
  • Proficiency with GIS, ArcGIS, and GPS-based mapping.
  • Strong understanding of hydric soils, hydrophytic vegetation, and hydrology indicators.
  • Ability to work independently in the field for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with conservation, solar, or land-protection projects.
  • Background with agencies such as EPA, DNR, Georgia EPD, or Army Corps.
  • Veteran status strongly preferred.
  • Experience preparing Section 404 documentation or similar regulatory filings.
  • Additional environmental certifications (not required; experience is prioritized).

Candidate Profile:

  • Reliable, consistent work history with clear progression.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain project experience.
  • Long-term career mindset; interest in professional development and certifications.
  • Comfortable with a mixed field/office schedule and variable project durations.

Work Model:

  • Primarily field-based, with periodic office work for reporting and analysis.
  • Typical pattern: multi-week field assignments followed by 1-2 weeks of office work.
  • Reports to the Atlanta office; hybrid field/office expectations.

Location Requirements:

  • Ideally Atlanta-based or within a 3-4 hour radius.
  • Candidates outside this radius considered only if highly experienced with strong industry reputation.
