Network Admin II

We have a Contract position for "Network Admin II" with one of our direct clients in Atlanta, Georgia for initial contract duration of  8+ months. No third party candidates considered for this position. US citizens and all those authorized to work in the US are encouraged to apply.

Job Description

Reason for Decline: I had no response so far, 2 candidates responded but they seemed to be overqualified and Unix admin type.  (Sameera's Comment)

Primary responsibility: Managing and maintaining Client engineering network monitoring tools applications

  • Works with vendor and Client engineers to provide testing frameworks.
  • Provides ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products.
  • Monitors server and application availability utilizing Client and 3rd party vendor tools to guarantee maximum service availability
  • Performs initial debug of issues and manages ticket queues for tool issues and feature requests.
  • Works with the vendors, as necessary, to provide support.
  • Escalates and tracks issues with tool vendors to guarantee maximum service availability
  • Identifies single point of failure and operational gaps and weaknesses and develops plans for remediation and improvements.
  • Configures and tests platform software to meet business needs.
  • Creates dashboards, correlation rules, alerts and reports
  • Works with vendor, as necessary, on implementation activities and automation of build and configuration
  • Maintains all technical deliverables including technical design and installation specifications and documentation of all configuration changes.
  • Works with release engineers to deploy all changes to production environment for assigned applications.
  • Plans for and manages the upgrade cycle for the platform.
  • Develops new and modifies existing customizations, conversions and interfaces.
  • Monitors usage, capacity and performance of systems; liaise with Client users and vendors to address problems and changes in requirements.
  • Recommends actions for fine tuning and capacity planning of existing systems
  • Maintains system documentation including licensing, hardware and software inventory, security data, user manuals etc.
  • Ensures systems are properly backed-up; define and implement backup procedures for disaster recovery purposes.

Required Skills

Technical skills:

  • Experience in one or more programming or scripting languages– Python, Perl, Bash etc
  • Experience using HTML, XML, JSON, Web Services (REST, SOAP), and SNMP
  • Experience monitoring and administration of Windows and Linux (RHEL) servers
  • Experience in installing and maintaining VMware infrastructure
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking (firewalls, routers, etc.) and network security fundamentals
  • Experience working with databases (e.g. MySQL, Apache Cassandra, Mongo DB)
  • Experience with Backup and Recovery methods; proficient with MS Office applications including Visio.
  • Familiarity with DOCSIS, HFC-Cable Video systems, etc is a plus
  • Familiarity with current industry standard applications and tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, NETCONF, YANG models, Git, Jenkins, New Relic, Splunk, Virtualization, DevOps, CI/CD, Amazon Web Services
  • Identity Management/LDAP experience plus

  • Successful candidate will be comfortable working remotely, self-driven and willing to work to come up to speed quickly in Client’s initiatives. This role requires working closely with and supporting Client full-time subject matter experts and team leads with the goal being to become capable of independently driving operations related activities and software testing and ongoing process improvement for the projects and tasks the individual will be working on.

Required Education And Experience:

5 years

TECHNA: New Typical Training / Experience - Typically requires BS/BA or Associates degree in related discipline; Generally 2-5 years of experience in related field; certification is required in some areas OR MS/MA and generally 2-4 years of experience in related field. Certification is required in some areas
